Tri State/Festival of Winds

Any Junior or Senior members who are interested in attending the Festival of Winds @ the University of South Florida OR Tri-State Honor Band @ Florida State University should see Mr. Langford this week to have your name submitted. Both of these events (occuring on same weekend) are opportunities to interact with other music students from around the region as well as with renowned conductors in performance setting. These honor bands are also great opportunities to visit the respsective college campus and learn about the offerings of those schools. If selected, there are costs associated with the events that would be paid for by the participant. More details can be obtained from Mr. L if interested.

Cheesecake Wrap Up

Congratulations to those who used the opportunity to sell cheesecakes and earn some $$$! The order will be submitted this week and we should have an updated delivery date soon.

Wise Words

  • What have we learned? For our younger groups, we opened the floor for discussion on what we have learned after our first month of high school. It is always interesting to know the things they are picking up on….. They are very observant! If you are the parent of a 9th grade member, take the time to see what they are experiencing across our campus – there are some great things being learned. BTW – can you believe a month has already passed?
  • Faithfulness/Consistency…. Specifically was brought forward to our percussion section. They are a dedicated group that is faithful and consistent in many ways…. Marching to and from outdoor rehearsals each week, holding weekly sectionals outside of rehearsals, striking the band room EVERY DAY to set up, the list could go on. It is an example for us all and more importantly, an example that can be carried forward for the rest of their lives in all they set forth to accomplish. Congrats to this unit on their faithfulness and consistency.
  • Awareness of Current Events – Informed Decisions… Spoke with several classes about this and the recent Republican Debate. Regardless of party affiliation, or beliefs, we are in a different time and age of politics. Our members were encouraged to watch and see what unfolds in the weeks, months and year ahead as we move closer to our 2016 Presidential Election. When voting, making the sound, well-informed, decision is critical to voting. Many of our members engaged in insightful, informed conversation on the topic which is most encouraging. Ronald Reagan once said, “All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” While our “dinner tables” often take on a different look, I encourage you to take time to sit and chat about current events with your household.
