Week 1 Wrap Up!
Wow! What an incredible week for our BDMB family! Busy, long, full of “stuff”, but absolutely incredible! No matter the forces in the universe working against us – nothing was gonna stop us from getting to the game on Friday and cheering on our Blue Darters! Late busses, smoking busses, missing exits…. nothing…. NOTHING!!! would hold us back from having a wonderful start to our Fall 2018 Season! Great job BDMB! Many thanks to our Chaperone crew for all of your expert efforts to ensure our kiddos had a great experience – and – many thanks to our Student Leadership team for your awesome start this week to our season! Be sure to check out FB for the Pep Rally video and more pictures that will come from across the program!
All of our classes have had a tremendous start. We are grateful to our Guidance department for their commitment to getting our campus schedules working in an expedient fashion – they are awesome! Each of our ensembles have settled in well and are ready to “dig in” this week as we continue to develop each player into the best version of themself that they are capable of becoming. I can’t wait to get back in Monday morning and “get after it” with each of our ensembles! The only thing I dread each class is my “Five Minute Warning” student’s signal during each class period that I only have five minutes left! THE CLASS TIME FLIES BY!
Let’s have a great week ahead band! Review the calendar for the week and prepare for an awesome time together with the family! IEGYB!
This Saturday! 8 AM – 12 PM! This is an AWESOME OPPORTUNITY to earn much needed $$$$$$ towards your Fair Share, NYC Trip Experience, etc. as we kick off Fall 2019! Download the form and sign up any and everyone to support you through these efforts! The funds can be donated “per hour” ($5 per hour/$20 total) or just given as a donation. Cash, Check, or SchoolPay are accepted. A SchoolPay option will be available Monday morning at our Blue Darter Marching Band SchoolPay link.
Visually, our goal is to learn Movement 2. All NEW members will have a DRILL SLOT for this portion of the show. We will look forward to getting ahead more than we have ever been within the BDMB! And, you can EARN SOME $$$ at the same time! IEGYB!
Click here for the Rehearse A Thon Form!
Forms and funds should be turned in no later than TUESDAY, August 28th!
- Two homework items were DUE this week:
- Handbook/Syllabus Signature Page
- Charms Info Update
- Please check with your student to ensure they have completed these very important items!
- Check Charms Monday morning for our Weekly Class Layout. This will help you plan ahead for each day’s rehearsal experience.
- 1″ (Or 1/2″) BLACK BINDER WILL BE CHECKED IN CLASS ON MONDAY!
- We will begin our 168 Assignment this week! Can’t wait to see the learning occur!
FSU Trip Roster
The official roster will be posted this week once all payments have been credited via cash/check and SchoolPay. If there are remaining bus seats that are not already spoken for, they will be opened on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure we are traveling with a full bus if possible. We will make this information available later this week.
If you are missing uniform items, or are having issues with your gear, please reach out to Ms. Janice ASAP! Email her at firstname.lastname@example.org to ensure you get the help needed to ensure you are “IN UNIFORM”!
Bartram Trail Trip
Our upcoming to Bartram Trail will be a “Pep Band” only experience. This game is in the Jacksonville region and for this we use Charter busses. We will take two busses and have a fixed instrumentation which means not everyone will travel with us. For those who would like to attend, the sing up will occur later this week. Sign ups will occur by seniority. We will travel with approximately 100 students for this performance experience.
One Mill Tax Vote
Click HERE to read the full article at ocps.net.
The renewal of a one-mill property tax will be on the ballot to:
Retain highly qualified teachers
Protect arts and athletics programs in schools
Maintain academic programs and student activities
This renewal is of a tax in place since 2010. Without it, OCPS will lack funding to continue fully supporting teachers and students. On Aug. 28, Orange County voters will decide if the one-mill property tax should be renewed for an additional four years.
The Big Picture
Without an extension of the one mill, OCPS will have $1,437 less in per-student funding than what 2007 funding would provide today, adjusted for inflation.
Without an extension of the one mill, OCPS anticipates a 2019 budget reduction of $143 million which will impact many hundreds of teachers, academic programs, arts and athletics.
THIS REFERENDUM IS THE ONLY QUESTION ON THE ORANGE COUNTY BALLOT FOR AUGUST 28th. IT IS THE LAST ITEM ON THE BALLOT.
