Solo & Ensemble Is Here! Read THOROUGHLY To Ensure You Are Up To Speed!

Welcome to S&E Week! This week means a lot for our program! We have many great performances and opportunities to showcase our learning as well as a great opportunity to serve our peers in FBA District 8 at SITE HOST for our annual Jazz/S&E/Auxiliary MPA performances!

The performance schedule should be released at some point today (yes, this is late…. still waiting to receive this from the District folks) AND our shift worker sign up will be posted first thing Monday morning for students to begin choosing their times to come and assist for this event. It is an expectation that EACH OF OUR MEMBERS within the program work one shift throughout the festival. This unique opportunity also will provide a great opportunity to earn much needed volunteer hours. You may earn as many as you can work throughout the weekend. Shift times are as follows:

  • Friday S&E/Auxiliary
    • Set Up Crew: 2:30 PM – 4 PM
    • Shift 1: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
    • Shift 2: 5:15 PM – 7:15 PM
    • Shift 3: 7 PM – 9 PM
  • Saturday S&E/Auxiliary
    • Shift 1: 8 AM – 10 AM
    • Shift 2: 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM
    • Shift 3: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
    • Shift 4: 1:15 PM – 3:15 PM
    • Shift 5: 3 PM – 5 PM
    • Tear Down Crew: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Jobs that you can sign up for include: Judge Runner, Help Desk, Office Help, Campus/Parking, Auxiliary Assistant.
  • For your shift, members should wear an APK BAND T-Shirt to ensure you are a visible, available, customer service representative for Apopka High. Jeans or shorts are appropriate.
  • For our Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion performances, members should wear their Tuxedo uniforms. For all other S&E events, you are to dress NICELY and appropriately for this performance environment. Jeans or shorts are not an appropriate option.

In addition to our student support element to S&E, we have a great opportunity to earn funds through concessions offered by our Booster organization. We will need parent support on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to make this a reality for our organization. These is one of our best methods to earn much needed funds for our program!

This coming week represents the culmination of many incredible things for our program! Great performances! Hard work! Commitment! Effort! Service! and More! I am looking forward to seeing and hearing our program make incredible music and provide wonderful, welcoming space for others to do the same!

Wolf Lake Solo & Ensemble Mentoring Opportunity!

It is that time of the year again where we are able to use our skills and leadership abilities to both musically and positively impact the lives of our members in our Middle School programs! Our first opportunity is at Wolf Lake Middle and involves a series of “Mentoring Opportunities” that begins on Tuesday, January 9th and runs through Tuesday, February 13th from 4 PM – 4:45 PM each week. There are over 40 students signed up to perform at S&E for the Wolf Lake Band Program and we want to reach out and assist them in their preparation! Students will range in age from 6th – 8th grades and will be eager to work with the “High School” students to better their skills in performance!

This is our THIRD YEAR! for this experience and it has yielded not only numerous SUPERIOR results but has also been an incredibly positive experience in building relationships with our feeder program.

Please see Mr. Langford on Monday if you are interested in this opportunity!

Spring After School Concert Ensemble Rehearsal Schedule

Please visit our calendar page to lock in your ensemble’s rehearsal schedule for the first seven weeks of the semester. Wind Symphony will have two Tuesday NIGHT rehearsals closer to MPA in lieu of the afternoon rehearsals.

Both of these ensembles, as well as our Freshmen Woodwind and Brass ensembles, and our Percussion Ensemble will perform on Tuesday, February 20th in our “Family & Friends MPA Showcase” to present all that we have been working on during the beginning of the Spring semester.

There are some wonderful things on the horizon for our program, and, we need you to help make this all that is can become! Mr. L will be reaching out to some of our Freshmen and Sophomore parents to lead some newly formed initiatives as well as connect us all to continue improving our ability to serve our members of the Blue Darter Band! Together we are STRONGER and we have a great Spring performance season in front of us to build our STRENGTH!

Jazz Ensembles Earn Performance Opportunities @ Epcot!

Our JE1 and JE2 performance ensembles have been selected to perform at Epcot in January and February to represent Apopka through the “Disney Performing Arts” series that will feature ensembles from Central Florida during the next two months. Each event costs $5.00 per person. i.e.: If a student is performing a solo, the event will cost $5.00. If there is a group of students performing a trio, the event will cost $15.00. You will need to locate the ID number for the piece from the FBA list which was added to the Google Classroom for each ensemble last Monday.

Events that are assigned as part of a course will have the costs covered up front.

For those who sign up and fulfil the performance obligation by following through with S&E, the up front costs will be applied to any outstanding fees that you owe.

Students that select a piece that requires an accompanist MUST procure an accompanist for your event and submit the name on the slip. You cannot perform your piece without an accompanist if the music has this as part of the performance.

MPA Wrap Up

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU…. and THANK YOU!

Our team of parents, students, alums, staff and more came together in incredible fashion on Saturday to serve as excellent ambassadors of our community to host TWENTY-THREE High School Bands from Orange County for our annual Marching Band MPA! I am humbled by the generosity of our village of parents, volunteers, and staff and how giving they have been to ensure that not only our program has the resources needed to perform at the highest level, but so that we can also provide an incredible environment for twenty-two other ensembles to showcase their talents and abilities as well! The commitment to excellence is quite evident in APK!

Our performance was certainly a capstone moment for our season. The students were musical, entertaining, patriotic, and dedicated to the concept that we focused on this year: United We Stand. The memories that are accrued in high school are many, and the memory of this show will be one that they take with them for life. There has been much sacrifice and dedication to see it come to fruition and I am proud of BDMB! THEY GAVE THEIR BEST ON SATURDAY!

As we look forward, we have many incredible things ahead with playoff football, Prism events, and more, but for the moment be proud. Be excited. Enjoy this accomplishment! You are a Straight Superior Band! The joy see on each and every face while circled up on the bird was priceless. You have earned this and are to be commended for a job well done!

I love you all and look forward to many incredible things ahead! But today, celebrate the joys of Saturday’s performance! It was incredible!
